What we collect
We only collect what we need.
- When you contact us: your name, email, phone number, business name and your message.
- When you become a client: contact and billing details, project information, and any logins or access you choose to give us for the project.
- When you visit the site: our host, Vercel, keeps short technical logs such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you open and the time. These are used for security and to keep the site running.
We do not use analytics, advertising trackers or social media pixels on this website.
Why we use it
- To reply to you and give you a quote.
- To plan, build, deliver and support your project.
- To send invoices and keep financial records.
- To keep our website and systems secure.
- To meet our legal duties, for example tax records.
We use your information because you asked us to, because we need it for our agreement with you, because the law requires it, or because it is in our fair business interest and does not outweigh your rights.
Marketing
We do not send marketing to people who have not agreed to it.
If you are a client, we may tell you now and then about similar services we offer. Every message includes an easy way to opt out.
To stop marketing messages at any time, reply "stop" or email dallas@nowtek.co.za.
Information outside South Africa
Some of our providers, like Vercel and Google, may store information on servers outside South Africa.
We only use providers that are bound by laws or agreements that protect personal information to a standard similar to POPIA.
Apps we build for clients
When we build or run an app for a client, the client decides what personal information the app collects. The client is the responsible party for that information.
In that case Nowtek acts as the client's operator. We only process that information on the client's instructions, keep it confidential, and protect it with proper security.
If you use an app we built for someone else, contact that business about your information.
How we protect it
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures. These include encrypted connections, access limited to people who need it, strong passwords and two-step sign-in, and trusted providers.
If we believe your personal information has been accessed without permission, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as soon as reasonably possible.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not become a project: up to 12 months.
- Client, contract and invoice records: at least 5 years, as tax law requires.
- Website logs: kept by Vercel for a short time, in line with their policy.
After that we delete it or make it anonymous.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may:
- Ask whether we hold information about you, and ask for a copy.
- Ask us to correct or delete information that is wrong, out of date or no longer needed.
- Object to us using your information, or withdraw consent you gave.
- Opt out of marketing at any time.
- Complain to the Information Regulator.
Email dallas@nowtek.co.za to use any of these rights. We will reply within 30 days. We may ask you to prove who you are first.
A formal request for records under the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) can also be sent to our Information Officer.
Data deletion
You can ask us to delete all personal data we hold about you at any time.
How to ask, and what happens next, is set out on our data deletion page.
Complaints
Please talk to us first so we can put it right. If you are still unhappy, you can contact the Information Regulator:
